Free T3 Ft3 Summary and Explanation
Under normal physiological conditions triiodothyronine (T3) represents approximately 5 percent of the thyroid hormone in plasma. Although present in lower concentration than thyroxine (T4), T3 has greater metabolic activity, faster turnover and a larger volume of distribution. It is produced largely through extrathyroidal conversion of T4. Like T4, it circulates almost entirely bound to the carrier proteins TBG, pre-albumin and albumin. Free T3 constitutes only about 0.25% of the total T3 in circulation.
- IMMULITE/IMMULITE 1000 Free T3 has not been tested with all possible variations of tube types.
- Volume Required: 100 µL serum (Sample cup must contain at least 250 µL more than the total volume required.)
- Storage: 2 days at 2–8°C or 2 months at –20°C.

Free T3 Test Units (LF31) Each barcode-labeled unit contains one bead coated with monoclonal murine anti-T3 antibody. Stable at 2–8°C until expiration date. LKF31: 100 units
Allow the Test Unit bags to come to room temperature before opening. Open by cutting along the top edge, leaving the ziplock ridge intact. Reseal the bags to protect from moisture.
Free T3 Reagent Wedges (LF3A, LF3B) With barcodes. LF3A: Two wedges. 7.5 mL ligand-labeled T3 analog in buffer, with preservative. LF3B: One wedge. 7.5 mL alkaline phosphatase (bovine calf intestine) conjugated to anti-ligand in buffer, with preservative. Store capped and refrigerated: stable at 2–8°C until expiration date. Recommended usage is within 30 days after opening when stored as indicated. LKF31: 1 set
Free T3 Adjustors (LF3L, LF3H) Two vials (Low and High) of lyophilized free T3 in processed human serum, with preservative. Reconstitute each vial with 4.0 mL distilled or deionized water. Mix by gentle swirling or inversion until the lyophilized material is fully dissolved. Stable at 2–8°C for 30 days after reconstitution. For longer storage, aliquot and freeze at –20°C. LKF31: 1 set
